Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment (Endodontics) is usually what becomes the choice of treatment when the nerve & blood supply (known as the pulp) is infected either being from decay or injury.
When the pulp becomes infected, it spreads through the root canal system of gene tooth. It does not usually invade the neighbouring tooth.
What’s involved?
The goal of root canal treatment (Endodontics) is to remove all infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to help prevent further infection. This treatment is a complex procedure that requires a lot of time and skill. Your dentist will usually require two or three appointments to complete the therapy and will use local anaesthetic to ensure your comfort during the procedure.
What will the tooth be like afterwards?
In the past the tooth would often darken after treatment. However with modern approaches it does not usually happen.
It is usually advised that the tooth have a porcelain crown placed on it so it strengthens the tooth.
